Aviation Organizations requires that any telecommunication tower, high rise Power Transmission cable posts / lines and pylons, chimneys, cooling towers, high rise structures or other structure, either temporary or permanent, which presents a hazard to air navigation be suitably marked and lighted to warn pilots of its presence.

Aviation Warning Lights are broadly divided into three following parts –

• Low Intensity Aviation Warning Lights : These lights should be used where the object is a less extensive one and its height above the surrounding ground is less than 45 m.
• Medium Intensity Obstruction Lights : Medium Intensity obstacle lights should be used where the object is an extensive one or its height above the level of the surrounding ground is greater than 45m.
• High Intensity Obstruction Lights : These lights should be used to indicate the presence of an object if its height above the level of the surrounding ground exceeds 150m.
